The Passing of Jigme Khenpo

Acho Rincpohe (left) and the late Jigme Khenpo (right)

Tonight, we did our annual prayer to the Year God at the beginning of a Chinese New Year under the guidance of Acho Rinpoche. After which, Acho Rinpoche explained that there is no such practice in Buddhism including the Vajrayana; he allowed such practice among us simply because it is part of our Chinese tradition. Next, he mentioned that he just attended the annual Singapore Chingay Parade last night. This was a mega project done by Dharma Brother Nah for many years as part of his job, and his last before his retirement. Dharma Sister Zhen told us that the sky was clear during the presence of Acho Rinpoche at the parade but soon after he left, the rain started to fall.
Acho Rinpoche informed us that Jigme Khenpo of Nyingma Dzogchen has just passed away. Dharma Sister Xiu shared with us a recent dream of hers, in which she saw Acho Rinpoche transmitting a Mahā-pratisāraḥ Practice. She also dreamt of Grand Master appearing at her home, telling her that he was looking for Acho Rinpoche. Acho Rinpoche said, “I have nothing.” He advised that others should not just blame XX for the huge problem created today, as XX is just a collective karma created by the group. It will be more important for one to focus on resolving the problem than being too personal about it.
Dharma Brother Shao shared with us that when he was dedicating the merit of his practice to the late Jigme Khenpo before the latter passed away, he had a vision of Jigme Khenpo lying in his sick bed. However, the body of Jigme Khenpo appeared in golden color and was seated in a meditation posture, with many emanation bodies of Acho Rinpoche appearing around and protecting him. Shao also told us that he had a vision of Jigme Khenpo and a huge stupa appearing in the spiritual space during our prayer tonight.
Acho Rinpoche told us that Jigme Khenpo had been delivered into a higher realm of existence. The latter has attained a higher level of spiritual accomplishment and aspired to assist Acho Rinpoche and Konde Rinpoche in their spiritual endeavors. Sadhu! Sadhu!
Finally, we ended our prayer by reciting the names of the Buddhas under the guidance of Acho Rinpoche and dedicated all merits to the sentient beings - may all sentient beings be happy, free of sufferings and attain enlightenment swiftly.

The Oneness of Sleep and Wake

Tonight, we did a Green Tara Practice under the guidance of Acho Rinpoche. After which, he told us that the first fifteen days of Chinese New Year is the Month of Spiritual Transformation with great blessing power; he advised us to practise with vigor during this period. He mentioned that a former Taiwanese neighbor of his came by his house during the Chinese New Year for a visit, where she consulted him on spiritual practice too. After that, he continued to do his sadhana. In gist, Acho Rinpoche made use of all his spare times doing his spiritual practice, studying the sutras and doing his walking meditation; he would typically do at least five to seven rounds of spiritual practice daily. He felt that our life is very short, so we should spend most of our spare times doing spiritual practice. In the past, Master Tshongkapa would hold a fifteen-day Grand Tibetan New Year Prayer annually. The Tibetan calendar and Chinese calendar happened to coincide with each other this year, so one would certainly receive a very powerful blessing during this period if he practised with vigor.
Next, Acho Rinpoche advised us that we should aim to attain a state of spiritual accomplishment where there is no longer a distinction between sleep and wake. If we are too preoccupied by the many mundane activities in life during the day, including the numerous interactions with our friends and relatives etc., it will impact our spiritual practice. So, we should reduce our frivolous conversations on mundane matters but, instead, focus more on our spiritual practice. He also shared with us his recent experience where while he was sleeping, he somehow felt that he was still doing his spiritual practice. This is the state where sleep and wake are merged as one. If a person is distracted by too much mundane activities during the day, he will not be able to enter a true state of spiritual practice, let alone reaching the state where sleep and wake are merged as one when he falls asleep.
Acho Rinpoche told us that, sometimes, he would do his practice throughout the night, meditating and reciting the sutras; he even found himself expounding the Lotus Sutra in his dream. So, we should practise with vigor during the day, in order to attain the state where sleep and wake are merged as one. We should focus our mind on the Lotus Sutra or reciting the name of Avalokitesvara during the day, in order to be able to attain the state of true emancipation free of cyclic existence. When a person has truly attained the state of enlightenment, he would see a perfect world right at this moment!
He also told us that in his early stage of practice, there was a period of six months where he completely lost his sense of taste; since then, he has no more desire for good food. Also, his mind became a complete void and that made it very difficult for him to carry on with his job because he had become a person with no opinions, for everything seemed to be perfect to him. At that stage, it was indeed hard for him to continue to live like an ordinary person. He said, under such circumstances, he should have gone into a retreat. Initially, he strived for his own emancipation but now he strived for the emancipation of all sentient beings, for he feels the agony of the sentient beings trapped in the cyclic existence.
Finally, we ended our prayer by reciting the names of the Buddhas under the guidance of Acho Rinpoche and dedicated all merits to the sentient beings - may all sentient beings be happy, free of sufferings and attain enlightenment swiftly.

The Lotus Sutra and the inconceivable merits of the Spiritual Practice

(Cintamani Cakra)

Tonight, we did a Cintamani Cakra Wealth Accumulation Practice under the guidance of Acho Rinpoche. After which, he mentioned that the Taoist practice of praying to the Year God annually around every Chinese New Year may also be practised by a Buddhist, as it is a traditional practice among the Chinese and it is also a form of spiritual practice; ultimately it is beneficial to oneself and others too. As for a wealth accumulation practice, it could help a practitioner gain some financial wealth to support his spiritual practice. So, he sees nothing wrong with doing such practices.
Dharma Brother Shao shared with us on his experience during our recent trip to Petaling Jaya of Malaysia, when accompanying Acho Rinpoche who did a soul deliverance practice for the late Jigme Khenpo who passed away there. On the Friday night when we did a group prayer in the hotel in Petaling Jaya, he had a vision of Jigme Khenpo appearing in the spiritual space. He also had a vision of the numerous emanation bodies of Acho Rinpoche appearing in the left hand corner of the space above Acho Rinpoche, with every emanation holding a different implement in his hand and riding on a spiritual animal, returning from every corner of the universe after helping the sentient beings. The emanation bodies re-entered the central channel of the body of Acho Rinpoche but soon after, exiting again to every corner of the universe, continuing their dharma works to help the sentient beings. They looked extremely busy going all over the places helping the sentient beings! On the following day, when we were searching for the location of the FPMT center, again, he had a vision of Jigme Khenpo appearing in the spiritual space, guiding us to find its location!
Acho Rinpoche told us that on the first day when he reached Kuala Lumpur he felt a sudden pain in his foot and started limping. However, half-way through the soul deliverance prayer around noon, he felt that the pain had strangely disappeared! We also saw a bird resting briefly on his head while being released to freedom during the prayer, which was indeed a very rare occurrence. He shared with us that he had a dream in the past where there were tens of thousands of birds flying in the sky, lifting him in the air and flying together. It was a sign that showed the strong karmic bond between him and the birds, for he saved numerous of them in the past. When he was blessing the fishes to be released to freedom during the prayer, there were tree branches above the FPMT center that suddenly broke and fell to the ground. It seemed to be another silent message with a certain significance too. Finally, after the prayer, Konde Rinpoche witnessed a rainbow appearing in the sky and he said that it was an inconceivable occurrence, for he had done many prayers with the lamas with no rainbow sighted most of the time! Acho Rinpoche wished that the locals would support Konde Rinpoche in his spiritual endeavors which are beneficial to the locals. He also mentioned that, in fact, the merits generated by the soul deliverance prayer was simply tremendous.
Acho Rinpoche told us that one day, when he was doing his walking meditation in a garden near his house, he saw a huge cloud in the sky that resembled the image of Maitreya Bodhisattva. A beam of light was emitted from the top knot of the image into the sky, drawing a distinctive line between two sections of the sky that appeared in different colors. He also mentioned that his house was currently undergoing a renovation and he had a vision one day of Vajrayogini Cave, where it appeared to be very dusty as there were many people busy digging the ground for the hidden treasures. It signified that the soil dug out from his house during renovation is similar to the sacred soil in the Vajrayogini Cave, for he and his entourage had been practising incessantly in his house over the past many years.
Next, Acho Rinpoche continued to expound the Lotus Sutra, touching on the eighth chapter which mentioned the prophesies made by Sakyamuni Buddha about his students attaining the state of Buddhahood eventually. Sakyamuni Buddha prophesized that Punna would become a Buddha in future, named “Dharma Light Buddha”, who would be presiding over a pureland with its sentient beings living on the spiritual joy of Dharma and meditation as their food. Mahakasyapa and 1,200 other Arahat students were also being prophesized by Sakyamuni Buddha that they would become a Buddha in future. Añña Kondañña was also being prophesized by Sakyamuni Buddha that he would become a Buddha in future after serving 6,200,000,000,000 other Buddhas, named “Omni Light Buddha”. There were five hundred other Arahat students in the assembly who were also being prophesied by Sakyamuni Buddha of their attainment of Buddhahood in future, named “Omni Light Buddha” too.
Next, Dharma Sister Bai from Hangzhou of China shared with us her recent experience. During one of her recent sadhana sessions, she had a vision of herself practising in a cave, with Acho Rinpoche sitting before her, while she was chanting the heart mantra of Acho Rinpoche. In another sadhana session, she had a vision of herself practising in a big hall which was bright and clean; she appeared in the form of an old lady doing her practice in a very calm manner. Acho Rinpoche commended her of her great experience and congratulated her that she did not see herself being surrounded by many decendents instead. It was, in fact, a great experience that she saw herself doing her practice in a very carefree manner.
Acho Rinpoche stressed again that a practitioner must abide strictly by the precepts; otherwise it will be useless to be practising vigorously. A practitioner must master the fundamental principles of being a good person. A practitioner who abides by the precepts is liken to a clean vessel filled with nectar, who will be able to accomplish his spiritual practice swiftly. A practitioner who does not abide by the precepts is liken to a filthy vessel filled with nectar which turned into poison instead, who will never accomplish his spiritual practice but will fall into a lower realm.
Finally, we ended our prayer by reciting the names of the Buddhas under the guidance of Acho Rinpoche and dedicated all merits to the sentient beings - may all sentient beings be happy, free of sufferings and attain enlightenment swiftly.

One Hundred Deities Soul Deliverance Puja held in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia

On 10 Mar 2018, Acho Rinpoche presided over a One Hundred Deities Puja held at FPMT Losang Dragpa Center in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. It was a special puja done for the late Jigme Khenpo who passed away in Petaling Jaya recently. There were fourteen other ordained monks and nun gracing the occasion including Rinpoche, Khenpos, Lamas and Ani. His Eminence Konde Rinpoche explained to the audience briefly on the significance of light offering and the One Hundred Deities Practice. Acho Rinpoche later shared with the audience his connection with the late Jigme Khenpo, which was translated by Konde Rinpoche into Tibetan for the Tibetan audience. Lastly, Acho Rinpoche told the audience that the late Jigme Khenpo had actually secured a rebirth in the Western Blissful Pureland of Amitabha Buddha, as he had completed a 3-year retreat, aspired to help the sentient beings, and due to the powerful blessing of the Buddhas. However, he has decided to remain in this secular world (spiritual presence) and continue to assist Acho Rinpoche and Konde Rinpoche in their spiritual activities. Indeed, on several occasions, Dharma Brother Shao had visions of Jigme Khenpo appearing at our prayers etc. Sadhu! Sadhu!
